a. Security is achieved by the use of a smart card combined with a PIN (Personal Identification Number) and the use of encryption. Each user is issued with a smart card and a pin. This allows authentication of the user as a bona fide client and allows access to relevant electronic information services.
b. The system may be customized to suit the individual library:
1. Each library defines its user profiles and charges;
2. The web interface is easily adapted to any language;
3. Use of the dosed-purse system allows any currency to be used.
c. Overall reaction to the Tolimac system was positive. Despite some reservations concerning areas such as searching or the appearance of the interface, users thought that the system was easy to use, that the response time was satisfactory and they liked the use of the smart card.
